Travelex are one of the worlds largest foreign exchange businesses. The description for them on our website reads “Travelex was founded in 1976 and has since grown to become one of the most recognised brands in the Travel Money sector with over 1,100 branches worldwide” As well as providing currency services for many banks and supermarkets in Australia and around the world, Travelex also operate 900 ATMs internationally at many airports, ferry and train terminals. Since New Years day all foreign exchange services from Travelex have been halted worldwide because of a virus attack on their servers. Although we have not had any direct information from them they have posted an explanation on their website.

Travelex have been very quick to close down their servers while they investigate and solve the problem but it has caused an issue for travel money businesses around the world and has affected some well known high street brands in Australia. You can still get some currencies in-store at many places but the exchange rates may not be as good as online rates.

Nobody, including Travelex can say when this might be resolved but fortunately there is a lot of alternatives and you can still get very good exchange rates from other suppliers.

As soon as they get things fixed all the affected suppliers will reappear on our listings so if your favourite travel money bureau is not showing at the moment then fingers crossed it won’t be long. In the meantime you can browse the website to see who is offering online click and collect or home delivery options.
